The fourth working group held from 16 to 19 November 1983, led by Prof. Schell, studied the topic of "Modern Biology Applied to Agriculture". Biotechnology can help solve some of the most serious development problems, above all hunger, from which a large part of humanity suffers. In particular, during the working group, experts from many countries investigated the possibilities of improving harvest yields through advanced biological techniques, such as the use of agrochemical fertilisers and specially selected pesticides.
