Fr Mauro Mantovani, a Salesian priest, was born in Moncalieri (Turin) in January 1966. He obtained a Doctorate in Philosophy from the Pontifical University of Salamanca (Spain) and a Doctorate in Theology from the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas "Angelicum". Currently, he is Full Professor of Theoretical Philosophy at the Pontifical Salesian University of Rome, where he was Dean of the Faculty of Philosophy (2006-2012 and 2021-2023), Dean of the Faculty of Social Communication Sciences (2012-2015) and Chancellor (2015-2021).

His research and publications focus above all on borderline themes between philosophy, theology and science, and in particular on the commentaries on some questions of the I Pars of the Summa Theologiae of St. Thomas Aquinas, in the history of Thomism.

He is a Council Member of the Pontifical Academy of St. Thomas Aquinas, a consultant of the Vatican Dicastery for Culture and Education, and a member of the Academic Council of AVEPRO. From 2016 to 2021 he was President of the Conference of Rectors of Pontifical Roman Universities and Institutions (CRUIPRO). On 14 February 2023 he was appointed Prefect of the Vatican Apostolic Library.
