Postponed for a year due to the assassination attempt on the Holy Father John Paul II, the conference was held on 23 and 24 September 1982 and brought together Academicians and scientists from all over the world. Pope John Paul II met the group in person at the Casina Pio IV on 24 September. The outcome of the meeting was the "Decalaration on Prevention of Nuclear War" published as the ninth volume of the Pontifical Academy of Sciences’ Documenta series.
