The Study Week, promoted by the PAS and chaired by Academician Prof. G.B. Marini-Bettòlo on the theme "Natural Products and the Protection of Plants" saw the participation of many highly specialized scientists as well as three representatives sent by FAO: Brader, Buyckx and Gonzalez. The topic, which is crucial for humanity, since 30% of crops – 50% in certain regions – are destroyed by insects, was approached by comparing the results obtained by each research institute, with the goal of using defence mechanisms existing in nature and devising strategies tailored to the situation of each region and relative environment.
