The subject of Nuclei of Galaxies is indeed a matter of lively discussion at the today and seemed to be a very suitable topic for a Study Week on astronomy. The preparation of this Study Week began during the Prague meeting of the IAU in August 1967 with discussions between Morgan, Ryle, Sandage and myself. A preliminary programme and list of participants was drawn up. When Ryle was unfortunately obliged to withdraw, the Organising Committee was formed by G.R. Burbidge, W.W. Morgan, J.H. Oort, A.R. Sandage, M. Schmidt, L. Spitzer Jr. and D.J.K. O'Connell (Chairman).
