The solemn official commemoration of the late Pontiff Pius XI of venerable memory, Augustus Founder of the Pontifical Academy of Sciences, was held on Sunday 18 February 1940 at 10:00. The Pontifical Academician Alessandro Chigi, Professor of General Physiology and Rector of the University of Bologna, delivered the commemorative speech to all present. Afterwards, the President Rev. P. Agostino Gemelli declared open the session during which the Academicians presented their scientific works.
